This article will highlight the importance of keeping yourself healthy, and your core world in a good place.
Health importance
The main point of looking into, for optimisation, this is to improve your own health and thereby productivity. This ensures that you will be able you maximise earning potential. Even if you are not an entrepreneur or director who directly gains from working more hours, there is also the possibility to continue working beyond retirement (should be noted that tax brackets tend to be more brutal in such a scenario).
Or not working, but still being active. The ability to enjoy live without a complete breakdown at later age. The later age is not actually a risk for the truly unhealthy: There are plenty of examples where people with exceedingly bad lifestyles die well before the age of 50, let alone mid 60s*.
Immediate surroundings
The importance of what you are surrounded with cannot be understated; a cafeteria with largely cheap unhealthy snacks increases the risk of myriad hart and vascular conditions. Working with poisonous materials has led to entire villages with a very high percentage of patients with cancer. The absolute best thing you can do, when finding this out; is running away as soon as possible.
There are also less extreme measures, such as changing route when it involves smog heavy stops. Or simply bringing your own lunch (considerably cheaper in most cases anyhow).
Beyond what was mentioned in this article: There are many things beyond your control or far away. These are likely unknow but still very relevant, unfortunately there is even less we can do about these, just try to stay healthy.
Financial health
To return to our more regular topic: Dropping bad habits directly results in less money being wasted. Which also has a positive effect on your regular peace of mind as you no longer have to think about buying junk or worry about bills.
*This does not include smoking at most a pack a week; truly bad is smoking a full pack a day and then some. Or genuinely drinking multiple bottles of alcohol every single day.
